Demeter is the goddess of the harvest and presides over grains and the fertility of the earth. Although she was most often referred to as the goddess of the harvest, she was also goddess of sacred law and the cycle of life and death. Her sacred plants included wheat, grain, poppy and mint. Her animal was the serpent, a creature which represented rebirth in nature and the fertility of the earth, was the animal most sacred to Demeter. A pair of winged serpents drew her chariot. You can see that the face of Demetra is surrounded by wheats, her sacred plant. Also, you can notice the detail of the wheats, almost like a wreath or wings on her head.
